Pummelo, also known as the Citrus Maximus, has become one of my favorite staples this winter. Its fresh, pungent aroma is intoxicating.
I saw this huge fruit lying in a bin with a “For Sale” sign on the label. I picked it up and put it near my nose. It smelled so good it nearly gave me chills.
I told my husband I had to try it. When I placed it in my basket, I noticed it left a sticky residue on my hands. It was worth it. It made my skin smell fabulous!
Later, we sat in our Expedition and had a little picnic. It had been a long day and we both needed to break for some food. I proceeded to peel pummelo. It smelled like grapefruit, and was very thick skinned. Inside it had a cottony-texture next to peeling.
Juicy is an understatement, and the flavor was so good! That was my first encounter with this fruit and I’ve been eating it regularly since then.
Pummelo is the largest of the citrus fruits and full of nutritional goodness. Its also regarded by some as a sign of good fortune and prosperity and turns yellow as it ripens.
If you want your home to smell amazing put the fresh peels into a pan of water on the stove and simmer away. It won’t be long until your house is filled with a bright, fresh scent. All organic. No chemicals needed.
I did a little experiment with the skin. I filled a glass jar with the peelings, covered them in Vodka, sealed it with a lid and then tucked it away into a cupboard. Hopefully I’ll have some wonderfully scented, organic perfume in a few days.
If you have never eaten this delicious fruit I hope I’ve enticed you to give it a try. I found mine for $1.50 USD in Evansville, IN. That’s an affordable, tasty and far more healthy option than a bag of chips, in my book.
Below is a vid I made featuring pummelo for you that I hope you’ll enjoy!
Thanks for your visit and I hope you enjoyed the read and my little video!
God bless you, and see you next time!
